" Education and fun rolled into one"

Blog

Welcome to my blog

My blog will be more of a news update than a regular blog. When I have news about my owls, new arrivals etc it will be posted here.

The season has begun and the owls are well into their breeding season.

The Tengmalms are on eggs and if my calculations are right the first chick should hatch about the 11th April with a Wood Owl chick hatching a few days later. The Mottled female has been in the nesting box for over a week so pretty certain she is sitting on eggs. The White Faced are showing signs by being in and out of the box and a similar activity by the Great Greys and their nesting ledge indicates they are getting close. I am keeping my fingers crossed with regard to the Great Greys as I have yet to breed them.

If you are interested in any of the youngsters please do make contact and we can discuss their needs and suitabilty.

.

I will post a few pics of the chicks once they hatch

It has been a while since I last posted so thought a quick update was in order. I have recently added a few new birds, namely a pair of Blue wing kookaburras and a pair of Elegant Crested Tinamou's both of which I am hoping to breed. I know they are not owls but I fancied branching out a little.

The new avaries are slowly being built but both money and time seem to be in short suppy. I continue to take the owls to various schools etc and this month will be atteding a local college with my feathered friends.

I am also hoping that the following birds will breed during 2016 and if interested in any young please contact me,

Asian Brown Wood Owl

Southern White Faced Owl

Indian ScopsOwl

Great Grey Owl

Mottled Owl

Tengmalm Owl

Tinamou's

The mild winter has many of the birds starting to show an early interest in breeding, I do know of some Owl breeders that have already bred youngsters this year.

The breeding season continues to go well and the house is full of the sound of chicks asking for food.

I currently have the following,

4 wood owls

2 Tengmalms

2 Mottled Owls

Still waiting to hatch,

Great Grey Owls

Wood Owls

Tengmalms

My white faced could still go down later in the year which would be a nice way to finish the breeding season.

Now to get back to preparing their food.

The breeding season is in full swing and I currently have 2 Asian Brown Wood owl chicks in the brooder. There are also 2 Asian Brown Wood owl eggs and 2 Mottled Owl eggs in the incubator. The Tenmalgms are currently sitting on about 5 egss (due to start hatching towards the end of this week). The Great Greys are also on eggs so if all hatch I will be very busy with lots of hungry mouths to feed, as I said the best time of year. I will try and add some pics later in the week.
